Unidentified gunmen on a motorbike shot dead 3 telecom workers and wounded seven others in Indonesia’s excitable Aceh province, police pronounced Sunday.

They killed the workers from Indonesia’s state-owned telecoms association PT Telkom on New Year’s Eve as they were lazy in their rented residence in Blang Cot Tunong encampment in Bireuen district, internal police arch Yuri Karsono told AFP.

“Three people were killed and seven had gunshot wounds. Two gunmen came on a motorcycle, a single got down and starting shooting at workers with a rifle,” he said.

“Their ground stays unclear. We are still investigating,” he added.

Despite the end in 2005 of a separatist fight that claimed around 15,000 lives, Aceh still practice occasionally low-level violence, together with armed robberies and politically encouraged explosive device and gun attacks.

Last month, unclear gunmen shot dead 3 oil palm camp workers and bleeding five others in north Aceh. Police suspected “economic motivation” at the back of the shooting.
