A automobile involved in a head-on crash which killed 4 men from the Wairoa area was seen speeding just prior to the pound in northern Hawke’s Bay on Wednesday night.

Four of the 5 men in the automobile died in the crash whilst the driver of the SUV it strike was in a critical condition and the solitary survivor from the automobile was in a vicious condition after the collision on State Highway 2 near Mohaka, about 30km southwest of Wairoa.

Both injured men, a single elderly 62 and the other 17, were in Hawke’s Bay Hospital.

Senior Sergeant Tony Bates says investigations into the crash are stability though the automobile had crossed the centre line on a dilemma streamer up a mountain and strike a SUV towing a vessel about 7.15pm.

The car’s three back chair passengers, who were not wearing seatbelts, were thrown from the automobile and died at the stage along with the driver.

Only a front chair newcomer in the automobile survived.

Sen Sgt Bates says the automobile was seen speeding usually prior to the crash and police wish to listen to from any one who may have seen possibly automobile final evening.

Names of the dead will be expelled after next-of-kin have been informed.

The road was closed until 5.45am on Thursday.
